Also from Lane Bryant: I loved this when I saw it an was even tempted to buy the skirt until I remembered I have a sequins dress and a white button down. I plan to where them together to get the same effect!

TOTALLY TUBULAR BRACELET {from green eyed monster)

MY NEXT DIY

My line-up of DIY projects was put on hold last week when a friend's grandfather passed away. She asked if I could make her and her family a series of red, tubular embroidery thread bracelets to wear during the mourning period. And so back into the friendship-making mindset I went!

Given that this woman not only threw me a whale of a baby shower, sewed the cover for the girls' loveseat, knit Sunny the most adorable sock monkey stuffed animal, and hemmed fabric for a project I will unveil in the coming weeks, I dove right in. Since I spend up to four hours a day breastfeeding Courtland, I was fortunate to have a pattern in mind that was easy to do with baby strapped to boob. I used only red thread, but you could easily mix it up with an array of multi-colored strands for an interesting effect.

While certainly a sad reason to engage in this project, I am happy that a little tutorial could come from it.

I considered these until I tried them on. Their shape and heel shape made them odd looking. I used to have a simple black Mary Jane heel and I got rid of them. Oh well. The thrill of the hunt!

DIY Principle

My number 1 DIY principle is to make what is simpler and cheaper to make than to buy in a store. That being said I saw these in a fabric store. I paused because they claim to magically keep your pants in your boots. I inspected the package anticipating just that... magic! Instead I found a piece of elastic held together by Velcro. In essence, a rubber band you can open and close.

Total DIY for $3 max. This is being sold for $11.99.

A few weeks ago I was getting ready for a feature in our local paper (click here) and spent a few dollars on cosmetics. One of my splurge items was blush. It was not a cheap splurge (about $5).
