In sickness and in health

It's amazing all of the things one must do to get married (license, vows, etc) yet there are no requirements to fill in order to be a parent. Don't get me wrong, marriage is a hard job. To make two lives one can sometimes seem to be an indomitable fete, but be there is still nothing harder than being a parent. To be a fully engaged, hands-on, attention-paying parent impacts the emotions, body, and spirit. Its seems only right that there should be some minimal requirements met or at least a vow. In sickness and in health til death do us part... This is the vow I had in mind as I cared for our sick princess. I renewed my vow today to be there for her for my entire life. Here's what I made while living my vow.

I also received my Walmart package.

I'm pretty excited about it. Thoughts?

Do your homework

Shortly after having children I began looking at things in the context of their needs and providing for them. For instance, if there was something I wanted to buy I would compare the cost and importance to our expenditures for them. For example, i wouldn't purchase a $50 pair of shoes because heck, that was two cans of formula. In the same vein, I was further motivated to hunt for and become an avid user of coupons adopting a rule to never pay full price... or as much as I could help it. However, I realized for the past two years I've been negligent in two areas. This blog is about one... eye glasses.

Not only did I not investigate spectacle shops, I also did not probe my insurance coverage. Until this week that is. So for two years I have taped, glue and even fingernail polished my glasses to keep them decent knowing that new glasses normally run me an easy $300. How wrong was I?! Come to find out I have EXCELLENT vision insurance coverage and got an eye screening AND glasses for $30 from my dr. office and $6.95 from zenni.com ( I had no idea .)

Imperfect Pink - DIY

Here is tonight's diy project. While they are not perfect (I'm definitely going to change the earrings), I am happy with this "project in process."

I had to make design adjustments based on my supplies, but these were so simple I plan on redoing them.

Intimidated...

So, I made a purchase and for the first time I'm a little intimidated by the dress. From the color to the construction it's a piece not for the faint at heart or weak esteem.

I admit I believe greatly that clothing in and of itself shares messages about about the wearer. I'm not just speaking of clothing with writing on it. At times it will share resourcefulness, creativity, priorities, and even emotions. That being said, it's not that I'm unfamiliar with an article of clothing that relays a message, but I'm faced with a purchase I love (it is cute) wondering what do I want it to say when I wear it and making sure I have the self-esteem to back it up.

Enough with the introduction.... Here you go.

Norma Kamali - Women's Plus All-in-One Jersey Dress
Walmart
$18

How much thought do you put in what you wear? How do you respond when people say clothes are not messages?

Surprise Surprise

I admit that lately I have been completely disenchanted with a certain shoe store that promises that you will payless for a stylish shoe. Imagine my surprise when browsing KMart's website. Every shoe below is priced at less than $21.

What do you think? Have you ever purchased shoes from KMart? How were the shoes?

And my favorite of the bunch for $13.....

DIY jewelry

I love statement piece jewelry. A few chain bracelet/rings caught my eye while web surfing. I thought one would be simple enough to try.

Inspiration on the left. Final diy product on the right.

Extended Vision

I wanted to take a closer look at the jewelry remake from the last post. Never forget what a pair of pliers can do, especially when you find a good deal.

I took the gold balls off of one and added some of the extended chain to each end to make it a second row. The balls from the extra pair of earrings are on either end of the balls on the new necklace. I then made a bracelet out of the remaining chain so that nothing would go unused.

Here's the before and after again.

You never know (picture heavy)

So my dear wonderful mother wanted to check out Charming Charlie's. Someone might say I'm visiting to often, but check out the pieces I grabbed today that we didn't see just two days ago.

These are two long charcoal chains that I plan on combining.

I admit this is a trendy piece but I still think it will be cute with a turquoise t-shirt under a chocolate suit.

Got 1 for me and 1 for C. At its cost I could do that.

Plans for this as well.

And remember this?

The bracelet was out today. I probably won't wear the earrings to not overdo this.

And remember this necklace?

Matching bracelet today...

Bought my friends Tif. and Col. each a pair of these. I think they'll like them.

And lastly, remember the gold ball necklace from above? Here's how my remake turned out.

While I can't promise I won't visit CC again, for the sake of variety I won't be posting any more of their items for a while.

I love a good successful hunt though!
